Attended direct
cremation ceremonies

A small gathering. Carefully chosen words. A moment to say goodbye.

If you want a simple cremation with a few people present, some providers offer an attended option. Where the provider and crematorium arrangements allow, I can create and lead a short, intimate farewell.

Based in St Neots, I work with families in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire and beyond. We begin by confirming what is possible, then shape the time available around the person you love.

Ask me about an attended farewell

Simple can still be deeply personal

Even a brief ceremony can hold a life with care. A few words of remembrance, a reading, a chosen piece of music or a quiet blessing may be enough. The content will reflect your beliefs and the practical arrangements your provider permits.

Before you book

A standard direct cremation is usually unattended. Providers use different names for their attended options, and the facilities and time available vary. Please confirm these points directly with your provider:

  • Whether family and friends can attend, and how many.

  • How much time is available and whether an independent celebrant can lead a ceremony.

  • Whether music, readings and any proposed ritual are permitted.

  • The date, venue, access arrangements and any additional charges.

I provide the personal ceremony; the cremation provider remains responsible for the cremation and its arrangements. I cannot promise that a provider will permit attendance or a service.

How I can help

We talk about the person you are remembering and the words you most want to hear. Once the provider’s arrangements are confirmed, I write a ceremony suited to the time and setting, guide any family contributions and lead the farewell with a calm, steady presence.

Frequently asked questions

Can every direct cremation be attended?

No. Unattended direct cremation does not include mourners or a ceremony at the crematorium. If being present matters to you, ask about an attended option before making your booking.

Can we have a longer gathering afterwards?

Yes. A separate celebration of life can give you more time for stories, photographs, music and personal rituals, at a venue or private place you choose.

Can we include spiritual or religious words?

We can include words that reflect your faith, spirituality or secular beliefs, within the venue’s guidance and the time available. You do not need to follow a standard script.

What if the cremation has already taken place?

You can still create a meaningful farewell. A memorial, ashes ceremony or remembrance gathering can take place separately.
